The complementary feeding It is a decisive moment in the baby’s development and, at the same time, one of those that generates the most concern in families. This presentation offers a clear and practical guide to starting complementary feeding with confidence, putting the focus on the approach. BLW (Baby-led weaning) and in security from day one.
The first part addresses the maturity milestones that indicate that a baby is ready to start complementary feeding, as well as the fundamental principles of BLW. It explains which foods are safe at this stage, how they should be presented to avoid risks, what textures work best at the beginning, and what should be avoided because they are potentially dangerous. Common doubts about quantities, progression, allergies and the coexistence between BLW and traditional diet are also clarified.
The second part focuses on safety: the difference between choking and the gag reflex, warning signs that all caregivers should be aware of, and unclogging maneuvers adapted to infants in the event of actual choking. The protocol for action in the event of a possible loss of consciousness is also included, with practical, simple and evidence-based guidelines.
The objective of the session is for professionals and families to have a clear, realistic and calm idea: it is possible to enjoy complementary feeding safely, respecting the baby’s rhythm and promoting its autonomy from the beginning.
