Conclusiones de la Campaña Antiestigma Sin Prejuicioff de ACEFEP

Entre estas las actividades, el Comité Pro Salud Mental en Primera Persona, llevó a cabo actuaciones de «Ceuta, Ciudad Sin Estigma». Se trata de trasladar una imagen positiva de la salud mental a la población general de Ceuta, para dar profundidad y contribuir al cumplimiento del artículo 8 de la Convención sobre los Derechos de las Personas con Discapacidad de la ONU, en relación a la toma de conciencia y la realidad que viven las personas con problemas de salud mental.

Con este motivo salieron a la calle a tomarle el pulso a la ciudadanía, comprobar de primera mano el grado de conciencia colectiva, y detectar, en su caso, prejuicios que perviven en el entorno de la salud mental. En un primer momento se preguntaba: «¿Qué es lo primero que piensa la escuchar salud mental?» y, a continuación, se invitaba a introducir en una urna la respuesta de la persona encuestada, preservando el anonimato y asegurando la sinceridad, a la pregunta «¿Tiene usted algún prejuicio hacia las personas que presentan algún problema de salud mental?».

El número de personas encuestadas fue de 120 personas en una franja de edad que fue de los 13 a los 63 años. La Asociación Salud Mental Ceuta (ACEFEP) presenta los siguientes resultados obtenidos tras analizar todas las respuestas:
En cuanto a la percepción inicial sobre salud mental:

  • he 28% of the people asked they associated directly mental health with the presence of some mental disordersuch as depression, schizophrenia, anxiety or stress.
  • he 7% respond to a profile with certain indefinition.

Regarding prejudices towards people with mental health problems:

  • he 37.5% confess not have prejudices departure towards the collective. This means that a large sector of the general population is not influenced by stigma and the climate of discrimination.
  • he 28.33%On the contrary, it is conditioned by stigma:

    • he 17.5% has a stereotypical image. Sensations of danger, aggressiveness, madness or strangeness appear. Human relationships are difficult and complicated. Some stigmatizing expressions are: «they are not right in the head», «they blame others», «they do not think well». Furthermore, mental health is identified with social problems, it is prejudged with emotional weakness and difficulty in treatment.
    • he 4.17% shows prejudice stories such as mistrust, limitations, «they are different», there is a feeling of guilt, «they must be treated cautiously.»
    • he 6.6% talk about discriminate, and they face rejection from society and social exclusion. Here, there is an assessment of inclusion, and it is that there is the impression that they are not properly understood and this reduces the possibility of social integration.

  • he 23.33% talk about Measures to take to promote inclusion and empathy, eradicate the way in which people with mental health problems are treated, demand equality, the right to a full life with opportunities, give more importance to this issue. This segment thinks that more information needs to be offered about mental disorders to understand them and know how to take care of mental health. More means are needed to help these people, more medical and psychological care.
  • he 4.17% save a commendable positivity towards people with mental health problems: «they are loving, good and innocent, happy, kind, positive, valid people, they are normal people.»
  • he 3.33% they have one change attitude once they have encountered a case in their environment: «after an experience, I no longer have prejudices and I try to inform myself», «you have to get to know them», «an experience has changed me», «from within they are normal people».

Conclusions of the ACEFEP Anti-Stigma Without Prejudice Campaign

Within the Mental Health Promotion and Exclusion Prevention Program, the Ceuta Mental Health Association has carried out the Anti-Stigma Without Prejudice Campaign during 2023. This has had the objectives, on the one hand, to make visible, raise awareness and reduce stigmatizing attitudes towards mental health problems, and, on the other, to modify the collective imagination, promoting a positive and more realistic vision of them.


During the year 2023, the different activities scheduled in the campaign were carried out, focused, in part, on the information exhibition held in the month of April, the summary of which you can read in this article.

Among these activities, the Mental Health Committee in First Person, carried out performances of «Ceuta, City Without Stigma.» It is about conveying a positive image of mental health to the general population of Ceuta, to give depth and contribute to compliance with article 8 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, in relation to raising awareness. . and the reality that people with mental health problems experience.

For this reason, they took to the streets to take the pulse of citizens, check first-hand the degree of collective awareness, and detect, where appropriate, prejudices that persist in the mental health environment. At first he asked himself: «What?What is the first thing you think about when you hear mental health? and, then, the person surveyed was invited to enter the response of the person surveyed into a ballot box, preserving anonymity and ensuring sincerity, to the question. «¿Do you have any prejudice towards people who have a mental health problem?.
