PAHO and CDRI Sign Agreement to Strengthen Health Infrastructure Resilience Against Disasters – PAHO/WHO

Washington DC July 3, 2025 – The Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Dr. Jarbas Barbosa, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Amit Prthi, general director of the Coalition for the Infrastructure of Disaster Resilient (CDRI) to strengthen cooperation in the development of safer and more residential health systems against climate change and disasters natural.

The agreement marks the beginning of a strategic collaboration that includes the development of capacities, technical assistance, knowledge exchange and joint defense for safe and resistant health infrastructure policies.

«I feel honored to strengthen the collaboration between Paho and CDRI,» said Dr. Barbosa, highlighting the important lessons learned in the region, particularly from the Smart Hospitals initiative. «Together, we will advance to the climatic climatic health infrastructure, resistant to disasters in the Americas.»

Welcoming collaboration, the general director of CDRI stressed the importance of health infrastructure remains operational during disasters. «Paho’s experience in the planning of future health infrastructure is invaluable, since these are expensive investments that must remain completely operational for many years,» he said.

Through this alliance, organizations will work to strengthen hospitals and health facilities against climate risks and emergencies through the implementation of training programs, providing technical advice to governments and jointly producing technical publications and tools.

The signing of the agreement underlines Paho and CDRI’s commitment to achieve the sustainable development objectives and build stronger and sustainable health systems prepared to respond to crises.
