
The «la Caixa» Foundation has launched a new call for applications INPhINIT Incoming doctoral scholarships. The initiative offers a total of 30 seats for researchers of all nationalities who wish to develop their doctorate in STEM disciplines -science, technology, engineering, mathematics and health sciences- is research centers of excellence in Spain and Portugal. ISGlobal, as Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence and member of NEAR program of the Generalitat of Catalonia, is one of the centers where the program can be carried out.
These scholarships, with a maximum duration of four yearsThey are designed to support top scientific talent and foster innovative research. Beneficiaries will be able to develop their doctorate in one of the Spanish centers accredited with the Severo Ochoa or María de Maeztu distinctions, Carlos III Health Research Institutes or in Portuguese centers endorsed as excellent by the Fundação per a Ciência ea Tecnologia. In addition to the financial endowment To cover labor, research and tuition costs for the doctorate, the program offers training in transversal skills.
The selected people will have the opportunity to join one of the research groups of the five research programs from ISGlobal:
- Viral and bacterial infections program in the world: aims to improve the understanding of the pathophysiology and immunity of viral and bacterial infections in vulnerable populations, developing tools for detection, diagnosis, treatment and clinical management.
- Climate, air pollution, nature and urban health program: We aim to strengthen scientific evidence on the health effects of climate change and urban exposures, and evaluate the health co-benefits of climate action.
- Environment and health throughout life program: seeks to expand knowledge about the causes and mechanisms of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), focusing on environmental, radiological, occupational, lifestyle, infectious and genetic risk factors.
- Malaria and Neglected Parasitic Diseases Program: aims to support the formulation of policies for the reduction of malaria and other parasitic diseases, and to expand scientific understanding of the most relevant parasitic diseases.
- Maternal, child and reproductive health program: aims to develop and validate clinical and community interventions for the most prevalent health problems in women and children living in low- and middle-income countries.
To pursue a doctorate in one of the ISGlobal programs, interested candidates are invited to contact directly the principal investigator of the line of research of interest.
he selection process for the INPhINIT Incoming scholarships is run by the “la Caixa” Foundation and candidates must submit their application before January 23, 2025. The selected scholarship recipients will be published on the “la Caixa” Foundation website on June 6, 2025.
