
Washington DC, October 2, 2025 – Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Dr. Jarbas Barbosa met on Wednesday, October 1 with members of the Council of the Americas’ Medical Care Series Leadership group and with health authorities from Argentina, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Guyana and Panama to advocate greater cooperation in health financing and safety.
During a high -level dinner at the Washington Office of Coa on the banks of the 62nd Board of Directors of Paho, Dr. Barbosa said that Latin America has a unique opportunity to place the health in the heart of the regional agenda before the top of the Americas of December in the Dominican Republic.
«Gathering public health officials and private sector leaders exemplifies the type of association we need to address the complex challenges at the intersection of health and economy in our region,» said Dr. Barbosa. «We need sustained financing, innovation and intersectoral associations to achieve the most vulnerable and sustainable progress.»
During the meeting, the members of the Council of the Americas expressed interest in working with PAHO to strengthen health policies and contribute to the development of strategies that result in better health results throughout the region. They also saw this commitment as an opportunity to offer their support and experience in the progress of shared health objectives throughout the hemisphere.
Dr. Barbosa described a variety of priorities to advance health in the Americas, with a particular approach in addressing non -communicable diseases (NCDS). He stressed that addressing conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer is not only an imperative of health, but also economic, since the NCDS voltage health systems reduce participation in the workforce and limit productivity.
He also stressed the importance of regional cooperation and economic growth, noting that when governments and the private sector are aligned with Paho’s technical experience, the results can be transformers: to promote sustainable markets, strengthen health safety and boost long -term prosperity. The participants agreed that health and economy are deeply interconnected, with associations in essential sectors to build a healthier and more resistant region.
