PAHO’s Virtual Campus for Public Health surpasses 4 million users – PAHO/WHO

Washington DC July 30, 2025 (PAHO) – The number of users to register for courses on the virtual campus of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) for Public Health (VCPH) has exceeded 4 million, which underlines the role of the platform as a vital tool for the training of health personnel in the region of the Americas.

The virtual campus is an open -access and open access educational platform, mainly aimed at health workers and students in related fields, which offers courses in Spanish, English, Portuguese and French. Participants who complete a course pass evaluations and then respond to the quality survey of the virtual campus can download a PAHO participation certification.

«The virtual campus is a key tool for Paho’s technical cooperation in the region,» said Gabriel Readvsky, head of the Special Virtual Campus program in Paho. «Its growth reflects the organization’s commitment to develop the capacity of health personnel, particularly in a context in which permanent learning and equitable access to knowledge are essential to achieve universal health.»

In recent years, the virtual campus has expanded to incorporate specific learning paths that integrate courses, seminars and resources to strengthen specific competences in priority areas of public health. There are three ways available to date: (1) Regulation of health and health technologies; (2) Better attention for non -communicable diseases (ENT); and (3) digital health.

Beyond self -managed courses, the PAHO campus also offers activities led by tutors, communities of practice and access to complementary educational materials such as guides, presentations, videos and bibliography. A mobile application, launched in 2023, also facilitates access from phones and allows offline navigation.

The majority of virtual campus users are health workers, and 69% are women. Half users work in hospital environments, while 36% work in health centers or primary health care centers, which are key focus areas to strengthen resilient medical care systems based on primary health care.

«As we move forward, our approach will continue to expand the virtual campus to reach more health workers and students in remote and unattended areas,» added Readvsky. «We are also working to promote the responsible and strategic use of artificial intelligence within health education.»
