Museums for well-being is a pilot program developed by the Zaragoza City Council together with 10 health centers in the city that aims to
improve the emotional well-being of patients through the therapeutic benefits of art. To do this, use the historical-artistic heritage as a resource to improve the physical, emotional, psychological and relational well-being and reduce the social isolation of the participating people.
The monthly activities include guided visits to different museums in the city and workshops. During the visits, the aim is to connect each work with the possible emotions of the participants, seeking their interaction, with the aim of making them feel like protagonists of the visit with their appreciations and allowing them to identify themselves and learn from the contents shown. Likewise, during the workshop, participants, guided by professional instructors, develop actions to generate therapeutic spaces that contemplate conscious reflection, group interrelations or the promotion of creativity.
In order to participate in the initiative, you must receive a formal recommendation from a professional on the team. of Primary Care. In addition, you must be over 18 years of age and meet one of the requirements specified below:
- Have the need to enhance physical, cognitive, psychological, social or relational skills;
- Having a high level of sedentary lifestyle, as well as being in a situation of loneliness, grief or isolation;
- Have a low emotional state;
- Be over 55 years old and need to diversify your cultural and leisure interests;
- Going through socioeconomic difficulties and finding in museums a space that generates new cultural and creative concerns;
- and those problems related to mental health that can be found in museums as spaces for relaxation, contemplation, enjoyment and proactivity.
The first phase of the project has been developed from September to December, and throughout 2025 three different groups will be established with a maximum of 15 people in each one. The duration of the program is four months.
Museums for well-being has been promoted by the Museums Section of the Zaragoza City Council, in collaboration with the Community Care Strategy of the Government of Aragon. Furthermore, it is part of the line of work called ‘Museum of Wellbeing’ that is carried out by the aforementioned Museum Section, and which focuses on the development of open and free activities that affect the improvement of the quality of life. . and the well-being of citizens.
