From the deepest consternation, the people who make up the Barcelona Global Health Institute want to express our condolences to the families of the victims that DANA has left in the province of Valencia and in other parts of Spain, as well as our solidarity with all . those affected.
The catastrophe has taken human lives, devastating entire communities. At this time, the priority must be to find the missing people, support the grieving population and recover the mental and physical health of the people who have managed to survive, while working on cleanup and recovery tasks. After the first days since the tragedy, it is necessary to guarantee basic public health measures to prevent possible gastrointestinal problems and outbreaks of infectious diseases.
Unfortunately, as science has been anticipating, extreme weather events will become increasingly likely. In this sense, we want to express our commitment to continue generating scientific knowledge that helps us understand, mitigate and adapt to the changes that are occurring in our climate, as well as to transfer scientific evidence to society.
