he European Accessibility Center, AccessibleEUled by ONCE FOUNDATIONhas organized a day in the university of porto to analyze the access of people with disability to higher education.

The meeting will take place next Wednesday, October 30, under the title ‘Accessibility and higher education‘, where experts in education and accessibility will try to establish a European roadmap that anticipates the needs of students with disabilities in the university environment.

According to the latest available data, People with disabilities have more than a 20% probability of leaving university studies earlya figure that doubles that of students without disabilities. Among the reasons that cause this situation to occur are the lack of accessibility of physical environments and curricular contents.

In this context, The day focuses on the importance of accessibility in higher education in Europehighlighting the need to eliminate barriers for all students. In this way, accessibility is addressed from a broad approach, which includes not only physical and digital aspects, but also the adaptation of study plans and the implementation of inclusive teaching strategies.

The event seeks promote discussion on standards and indicators for inclusive education in universities. In addition, emphasis will be placed on transnational collaboration and the creation of networks of good practices between different actors in the university environment, including teachers, students, administrative staff and those responsible for inclusion policies.
