About a third of cancer cases can be prevented by reducing the following risk factors:
- Tobacco consumption.
- Low intake of fruits and vegetables.
- Harmful consumption of alcohol.
- Insufficient physical activity.
- Chronic infections such as hepatitis or human papillomavirus.
- Solar exposition.
They also play a fundamental role in preventing screening.
On the occasion of this day we bring you some letters from the Spanish Association Against Cancer, so that you can learn more about this association and the work it carries out:
We develop our activity at a national level with implementation throughout the Aragonese territory. Our programs and services are completely free for everyone who requests them.
We have face-to-face offices in the three provincial capitals (Huesca, Teruel and Zaragoza), and a presence in more than 80 towns spread throughout the rural area through our local boards.
How can we address this reality?
Through PREVENTION:
Scientific evidence confirms that we can reduce the risk of cancer if we adopt healthy lifestyle habits.. Through our programs we seek that adoption and change in lifestyle in a simple and fun way. Some examples would be:
- Healthy routes and walks.
- Prevention activities in Educational Centers.
- Expansion of Smoke-Free Spaces.
- Smoking cessation programs.
- Information tables on the general population, etc.
On the other hand, the active participation in early detection campaigns of different types of cancer provided by health authorities allow tumors to be detected even in their initial stages, which facilitates diagnoses and treatments.
Through RESEARCH
The oncology research It is the fundamental element to increase cancer survival, not only with the development of less aggressive and more effective treatments, but also by discovering new early detection techniques.
From the Spanish Association Against Cancer through our Scientific Foundation we promote the much-needed research by calling for grants to researchers and projects throughout the territory. Currently, we are the social and private entity that allocates the most funds to cancer research. Specifically, 104 million euros in 565 projects in which more than 1,500 researchers participate.
It is essential to achieve, together, the creation of a Cancer Research Plan in which public and private entities join forces so that, in 2030, the average cancer survival reaches 70%.
