Yesterday, May 24, the report presentation day took place: COMPREHENSIVE EDUCATION OF SEXUALITY. SITUATION IN ARAGON. PERSPECTIVE OF THE EDUCATIONAL COMMUNITY.
The opening of the day and presentation of the report were carried out by Francisco Falo (General Director of Health public) and Elisa Ferrer (Head of the Health Promotion Section of the General Directorate of Public Health)
The objective of this report, carried out by the General Directorate of Public Health and the General Directorate of Planning and Equity, has been to know the perspective on the incorporation and approach of Comprehensive Sexuality Education in educational centers in Aragon.
The main conclusions that emerge from the report, and that were reviewed during this day, are:
- The relevant importance of CSE for children and adolescents to develop useful skills and knowledge in the creation of healthy and respectful relationships.
- The EIS approach has to be carried out throughout do the educational process and must begin at an early age.
- The Responsibility for training in CSE must be shared by the school and the family, and must be coordinated and aligned. Without forgetting other important agents such as peer groups, media, social networks…
- The EIS must be incorporated through a Solid itinerary, well structured and adapted to different ages. from the student.
- The integration must be transversal in the different areas, tutorial action plan, curriculum, and must be supported by experts.
- is training and training of teachers and families in CSE is necessary
The proposal presents various didactic actions grouped by age, to include from early childhood education to the 3rd cycle of primary school. In each didactic action, the object to be achieved is marked and the resource for it is provided.
During the day, in addition to the presentation of the aforementioned documents, a round table on Aspects to take into account to address Comprehensive Sexuality Education through different perspectives, moderated by Mercedes Febrel (Head of Health Service in All Policies), and made up of experts, teachers and representatives of parent and student associations
From this round table the following reflections can be extracted that further reinforce the conclusions included in the results report:
- The information that young people receive regarding sexuality comes mostly from social networks, the Internet, television, peer groups, etc. This means that on numerous occasions it is of poor quality, confusing and contradictory.
- It is necessary to address CSE from schools since, in addition to being a primary training agent, it can reach the most vulnerable children and adolescents and prevent inequality of opportunities.
- The HIA has to follow a roadmap to avoid inequalities. Furthermore, it has to be agreed upon and coordinated with all the agents involved: school, family, student.
- Teachers must be trained to offer quality CSE, as well as families.
- It is necessary to educate in comprehensive sexuality (to cover feelings, affections, sexual relations, diversity, equality…) from childhood, in a transversal way, and continue with this training throughout all educational stages to provide young people with tools. that allow them to maintain healthy relationships, based on respect, tolerance and consent.
The importance of this day, whose purpose was the presentation of the results report of Comprehensive Sexuality Education. Situation in Aragon. Perspective of the Educational Community and the Proposal for Comprehensive Sexuality Education, It is evident through the numerous mentions that have been made about it in both audiovisual and written media.
